THE Zimbabwe National Organization of Associations of Residents Trust (ZNOART) Bulawayo Provincial Chairman, Mr Ryan Mpofu has urged the newly elected councillors that the time for electioneering is over, and it is now time for them to serve the Residents who voted them into power.

Mpofu said this in an exclusive interview with BANO NEWS.

"We congratulate them on being elected Councillors and the subsequent election of the Mayor David Coltart and his Deputy, Councillor Donaldson Mabutho. We now say the time for electioneering is over, it is now the time for them to serve our residents, the Residents of Bulawayo who are the taxpayers.Serve them diligently and understand that whatever assignment they are given to do for the people, they must be done and must be done diligently"

Bulawayo residents have put their new hopes of a better and quality service delivery to the newly elected Councillors and Mayor David Coltart who is promising to restore the City of Kings to it's former glory.

As a way of fighting corruption which has become a day to day activity within the council corridors, Mpofu advised the newly elected councillors that they must have conscience and do the right thing at all times.

"They're service to the people, they must have a conscience so that they will not steal from the people. We do not want councillors who steal from the people, we do not want councillors who get into office so that they amass personal wealth, get stands and other benefits that they will get as a result of being part of the council"

"Councillors must work with the Residents, solutions that they come up with to the problems that are there in city should be people centered, should emanate from the residents, so what we are  simple saying is that let us move from that western liberal kind of thinking which is to say Residents don't think we will think for you, it's wrong, what should happen now is, the solutions should be people centered, which is to say they should form part in coming up with the solutions to the problems that are there in the City," said Mpofu
