In a city where modern distractions often push traditional stories to the background, a young Bulawayo author is using the power of words to reconnect readers with Ndebele culture and the realities of youthful life.

Zwelithini Mjabulisi Dlamini is set to launch his latest novel, Akunngiqabule Mbijana, a story woven around hope, resilience, and the trials of growing up. The book reflects not just the author’s own experiences but also the struggles many young people face today, offering encouragement and healing through its pages.

“The sense of the book is deep. Ndebele novels and our cultural values are slowly fading away. I wanted to revive our heritage and give hope through this story,” Dlamini said, describing the motivation behind the work.

Inspired by his youthful lifestyle and the works of renowned Ndebele author Mihla Sitsha, particularly Wangenza Mntanami, Dlamini embarked on a journey to craft a story that would resonate with readers while highlighting the beauty of the Ndebele language.

Despite facing financial challenges during the writing and publishing process, the author’s dedication never wavered. He hopes the novel will not only entertain but also encourage young readers to embrace their mother tongue, strengthen their vocabulary, and take pride in their cultural identity.

The launch event is scheduled for April 12 at Grand Vista, where literature enthusiasts, cultural advocates, and the general public are invited to celebrate the milestone.

Dlamini is no stranger to creative storytelling. His previous works include the poetry anthologies Ithendele Elikhala Ligijima and Survival of the Fittest, cementing his growing reputation in Zimbabwe’s literary scene.

Through Akunngiqabule Mbijana, Dlamini hopes to remind readers that even amidst life’s hardships, there is always space for hope, healing, and the enduring power of one’s own story.
