The Parliament of Zimbabwe has entered into four landmark partnerships aimed at strengthening its legislative, oversight and representative roles through enhanced collaboration with key institutions.
On Wednesday, Parliament signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), Hivos, the Female Students Network (FSN), and the Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI).
The agreements signal Parliament’s growing commitment to building strategic alliances that bring technical expertise, innovation and stronger community engagement into the legislative process.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of Parliament, emphasized that modern governance requires institutions to work closely with partners who possess specialized knowledge and direct links with communities.
“Taken together, these four partnerships affirm a principle to which Parliament is firmly committed, namely, that no matter how elevated an institution might be, it cannot consummately realise its mandate in isolation,” said Mudenda.
He added that Parliament’s effectiveness as the country’s premier legislative institution is significantly enhanced through partnerships with organizations that provide technical support, innovative thinking and grassroots connections.
Mudenda noted that the newly signed agreements would help invigorate Parliament’s ability to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities of legislation, representation and oversight.
The partnerships are expected to contribute to strengthening research capacity, policy development, civic engagement and inclusive participation in national governance processes.
With the agreements now in place, Parliament anticipates closer collaboration with the partner organisations in advancing democratic governance and improving service delivery for the people of Zimbabwe.
