BULAWAYO'S biggest comedy festival gets underway next month for the 2nd edition, combining a string of fresh and household names of the comedy scene.
The highly anticipated Culture Fund and EuropeanUnion Creative2ACTIONs supported fiesta will run from October, 25- 28 under the theme "IT'S ON."
This year's edition will run for four days, with the first day of the Festival being Theatre day, second day it's the Bulawayo vs Harare, Stand-Up Comedy Show. Followed by Short film screenings on the third day and lastly The Roast of Zimbabwe on the last day of the Festival.
Speaking to BANO NEWS, Festival Director Huberty "MaForty" Ndlovu highlighted the main objective of the Festival:
"The Comedy Festival strives for an engaging, informative, and entertaining comedy industry in Zimbabwe and beyond, which will give focus to Zimbabwean comedians and propelling them to international stages or platforms. The festival sets itself to bring international attention to the city of Bulawayo through comedy and thus making the festival a tourist attraction," said MaForty.
The Festival Curator, Yananai Mavingire told BANO NEWS that this year's Festival is a show not to miss.
"Bulawayo should expect four days of clean, intelligent, witty and family friendly comedy, theatre and film. A chance to hear and see young talent, seasoned professionals and some time to forget that life is hard and there's humour in everything"
Responding to why Dominican Convent High is the only Bulawayo school performing at the Festival, Mavingire said:
"We did a call out and asked those interested in performing at the festival to get in touch with us and we move from there. It so happened that only a few particular schools did follow up. Maybe next year, instead of a call out we'll head hunt but for this year, we working with those who showed interest directly,"said Mavingire
