Highlanders goal keepers coach Daniel "Kayembe" Khumalo has embarked on a life changing project for local goal keepers based in Bulawayo that seek to improve and sharpen their skills within their careers.
Popularly known by his nickname "Kayembe" is using his spare time off the pitch to group young and senior goalkeepers training them the basics of goalkeeping both theoretical and practical.
The Highlanders Goal keepers coach Daniel Khumalo highlighted that this timely gesture is meant to assist aspiring and proffesional goal keeper to improve and sharpen their skills.
"My project is all about development and assisting the community to make sure that these young generation realize their talents especially goalkeepers because they lack the push , motivation, encouragement and exposure. My aim is to help and improve goalkeepers at an early age like,10-23years and teach them theory more and practicals", said coach Daniel.
A project which started with only few individuals has attracted multiple local goal keepers who ply their trades in different teams from development juniors to topflight league goalies.
The local goal keepers who are part of the project are Caps United's Bhekimpilo Ncube, Elton Sibanda of Sheasham, Matrriples Muleya from Triangle, Bosso 90 duo Romeo and Junior among others.
Daniel Khumalo has worked with Noman Mapeza at FC Platinum and achieved a lot of silverware, in 2021 he worked with Philani "Beef" Ncube and later joined the Bulawayo giants Highlanders after spending a short stinct at the municipality led team.
Currently the goalkeepers coach at Highlanders FC Daniel "Kayembe" Khumalo may well achieve this year's goal of attempting to help Ariel Sibanda feature in the 2023 sports calendar.
Ariel Sibanda is currently in contention for the 2023 ZPSL golden glove with 18 cleansheets in 29 matches and having conceded the second fewest goals in the domestic league.
