ZIMBABWE National Organization of Associations of Residents Trust(ZNOART) has given the City Councils and Towns up until the 30th of November to put their houses in order in terms of refuse collection or they will urge all residents to dump their refuse and waste at town houses and all council district offices.
This was said by the ZNOART National chairman Shalvar Chikomba in an exclusive interview with BANO NEWS.
ZNOART is a non political apex body representing all residents and associations in Zimbabwe.Their focus and thrust is community development, service delivery, environment, infrastructure development, gender and social welfare, waste management, drug and substance abuse.
Chikomba told BANO NEWS that as an association that represent the residents, they are planning to take this decision after a number of issues that were raised by the residents.
"You might have seen the statement which we said we are giving the City Councils and towns up until 30 November to put their houses in order in terms of refuse collection and waste management. We are talking about the whole of Zimbabwe this is not about a single city because of lately we have seen huge dump sites emanating from our neighborhoods which was as a result of failure to collect refuse by City Councils".
"Our new dumpsites will be at council offices so that they experience what residents are facing.Residents are tired of paying for services which are not being rendered".
Chikomba alluded that "as an Association, we have tried in vain to talk to Council officials the City fathers about this problem which we have of uncollected refuse in our homes and we have seen it fit to take this decision maybe to force them to collect refuse".
