Imvelo to grace Nkayi Prestigious Awards with mesmerising performance

MATABELELAND NORTH - Imvelo, the renowned Bulawayo musical production, has been selected as the headline act for the esteemed Chief Dakamela Achievers Awards, set to take place in the picturesque town of Nkayi, Matabeleland North.

Imvelo will captivate the audience with their enchanting performance, showcasing their extraordinary talent at this highly anticipated event.

According to a press statement, The Chief Dakamela Achievers Awards, now in its second edition, aims to honour and recognise individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to human development in various fields.

"The performance of Imvelo fits in well with the objectives of the awards which include to honour those who made significant contribution in their fields of life and promote excellence that transforms the lives of communities, provide platform where the community and leaders from different walks of life could be inspired by the contributions of others, share good practices and lessons learned in promoting development outcomes and to take stock of current development initiatives." reads part of statement.

Scheduled for Saturday, the event will feature a line-up of seven artists accompanied by a six-piece band, boasting an assortment of musical instruments including saxophone, guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and percussion.

Leading vocalists such as Thandy Dhlana and the renowned Charles Mahlaba will grace the stage, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

In a statement seen by this gazette indicates that Imvelo is a collaboration of well established artists as well as upcoming ones.

"The production is a collaboration of established and upcoming artists some from vocal, dance and music groups of the city who have a long history of excellence and acclaim in the arena of traditional African and world music," reads the press statement.

The production, under the esteemed Ilima Records, a record label established in 2023 by Nhimbe Trust, aims to promote indigenous music and foster the growth of the music industry in Zimbabwe, with a vision to expand the consumption of African music globally.

Their repertoire includes acclaimed songs such as "Njelele," which pays homage to a sacred mountain shrine where rain-making ceremonies were once held to call upon ancestors for bountiful seasons.

Imvelo's music also addresses important themes such as land preservation, as depicted in their thought-provoking piece "Ndwandwe" that serves as a plea for harmony between humans and nature.

Imvelo's inclusion in the Chief Dakamela Achievers Awards aligns perfectly with the event's objective of celebrating excellence and fostering community inspiration. As rivers run dry, crops fail, and animals suffer due to environmental challenges, their music serves as a call to revive ancient practices and cultivate a harmonious relationship with the natural world.
