BULAWAYO- This year's Africa day will be celebrated in style as Scarless Image Agency is set to stage Acoustic Mbira Session, a family event that will be held at the historical Bulawayo Public Library (BPL) on the 25th of May.
The acoustic session will allow listeners to connect with the emotions and lyrics in a more intimate way allowing the audience to remember the stripped down nature of acoustic music to also highlight the skill of the musicians and the beauty of the melodies, thus showcasing the unique talent of an African child.
Acoustic music is often associated with a sense of nostalgia and simplicity, which can be comforting and soothing hence the audience can expect a great evening of beautiful ,raw and relaxing sounds.
The event will be graced by a perfect mix of energetic, fresh blood Mbira players alongside spoken word artists who are an invigorating force for the evening.
The Africa Day event will be celebrated in style as the event seeks to celebrate being African and everything beautifully unique about the native people of this continent, the acoustic Mbira session seeks to embrace one of the indigenous musical instruments as an African family in an authentic way with family and friends.
In an interview with this publication, Melissa Melcy Ntulini the founder of Scarless Image Agency, mentioned that there will be stall spaces for crafters to exhibit on the day.
She said,
"There's gonna be a line of classic poetry and the audience will get to experience the beauty of poetry riding on the Mbira frequency or wave."
"The various stalls spaces are there for crafters to exhibit and sell their handmade craft to the audience and possibly share how they make the beautiful ornaments.
She also emphasized that the event is for everyone regardless of age, it's a family event.
"It has to be an Africa day experience for both the young and old." Added Ntulini
Scarless Image Agency is a brand that serves as a hub of creativity for cultural curations.
The brand produces culture or traditional themed events and nurtures talent.
It was founded by Melissa Melcy Ntulini, a cultural chauvinist, arts journalist and a creative director/film maker in 2018.
Scarless Image Agency has been conducting seminars at grassroots level in tertiary institutions and hosting musical events.
The agency was registered in 2020 and launched by the Minister of State for Bulawayo Province and Devolution, Hon. Judith Ncube, the brand was launched with a Runway fashion show to demonstrate its belief and respect in different cultures, as fashion is influenced by culture
The second big event will be Mbira sessions, an intimate, family-oriented listening session that features nothing but magnificent sounds of Mbira and cultural exhibitions.
The founder of the brand also commented on the progress with regard to the preparations of the event.
"Preparations are underway, it's a grapple to put out a whole show without external funding, but as our tagline goes "capturing the limelight with ease" the performing acts intend to do just that on the 25th of May."
