BULAWAYO - Over the years Pumula has proved to be one of the locations where Bulawayo talent is brewed and due to its talent in nature many artists from this community continue to be dedicated in their work.

The sky is the limit for Pumula artists but the recognition at a national level is still lacking, only Uncle Zex Mdawini remains the last artist from Pumula to be recognized at National Arts and Merit Awards(NAMA) after he scooped the outstanding comedian award in the past two years.

What could be the reason for this?

Nevertheless, the creatives from the Pumula Suburbs are always busy as bees, throughout the whole year in their different forms of art which include poetry, music, drama, dance, fine art among othe forms of art found in this place.

Another phenomenal song bird from Pumula, Acquillah K gave a hint in her plans for the year stating that she is cooking hot singles to be dished throughout the year.

This will be a busy year for the award winning female vocalist after battling illness sometime beginning of the year, 2024.

According to various reports the artist went quiet as she was fighting for her healthy in the first quarter of the year but she managed to bounce back with a single track.

Acquillah K is a singer, born as Karen Dhliwayo bred in Bulawayo.

The strong tower in her brilliant talent to heal through music, is the hem of story-telling, motivation, love in its different colours in her song writing.

Outgoing and ever smiling Acquillah K has inherited the title "Purple Queen" from her fans through her first ever Dreams and Fantasies EP lead single titled " Purple Night"

The songstress has managed to work with some big names in the music industry such as  Fish F Ndaramu formerly known as Fish F Mcswagg, Skido Flexx, Collinbeats just to mention a few.

Pumula based songbird has collaborated with Bleckhit; now Bleckhit Lunga The Advocate, in more than one song in his album, multi award winning Poly da Nqoe, Mandie Mae, Lord Skeelz and the two time Best Male artist Ronald Stone.

Over the last 5 years Acquillah K has dropped hits which include Purple Night, Umsebenzi, Tikawirirana among other musical pieces that dominated airplays on local radio.

In future, she aspires to work with big names like Takura, Mj Sings (Zimbabwe), Asa (Nigerian-American) and Major Lazer.

She is also a multi-awarded nominated artist which includes Bulawayo Arts Awards Nominee and Best Female Artist Winner at the PRACA 2022.

In an interview with BANO NEWS, Acquillah K said that she has more than enough single tracks to feed her fans throughout this year.

"As for this year I have singles and more singles that I will be dropping throughout the year", said Acquillah K

Pumula is located about 13km to the south western part of the Bulawayo Central Business District (CBD) and it consists of Old Pumula, Pumula East, North and South.

It is the home of Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (PRACA) a youth-led initiative that seeks to promote local talent and promote community development .

It is regarded to be one if not the only community with its own community awards run by the youth in Zimbabwe being the brainchild of Happy Mpofu and Evidence Zana who are the founders of the the initiative.
