HIGHLANDERS FC are out to defend their Independence cup against traditional rivals Dynamos FC as the country celebrate its 44th independence day in Buhera.

The independence Cup match will be played at the Murambinda B school on Thursday as Zimbabwe turns 44 since attaining it's independence from colonial rule.

Manica Diamonds FC and Simba Bhora are some of the additions altered to curtain raise before the main match as they will lock horns a day before at the Murambinda A school grounds on 17 April.

Bosso who are the defending champions of the independence cup last year won the prestigious cup on penalties against their perennial rivals aftera 0-0 draw inside 90 minutes at Mt Darwin.

Speaking during an interview Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu  highlighted that only the state of the pitch will determine the style of play for the day.

"We are not sure of the environment or the terms of the pitch, the way we are going to play, I think that will determine how we are going to approach the game. Looking at the venue there are a number of factors that we need to consider and we have so far seen 2 pictures of the venue", said coach Kaindu.

Dynamos march into the independence cup in search of a victory formular having been beaten earlier this year by Highlanders in their first league match which ended 2-1 at Barbourfields stadium.

However the glamour boys who are struggling to find form in the domestic league face the Bulawayo giants who are the table toppers having scored 10 goals, 4 wins, 2 draws and no defeat in the opening 6 games of the topflight.

Already planning to axe their head coach Dynamos FC find themselves in a much unfamiliar territory sitting on position 14, with only 1 win, 3 draws, 2 defeats having scored only 4 goals in their opening 6 games of the 2024 season. Much to a latest frustrating 1-0 defeat against Simba Bhora.
