THE 2024 edition of the Bulawayo Day celebrations and Bulawayo Arts Festival are set to kick off tomorrow with the organizers promising a bigger and a better show.


The allocated budget for this year's celebrations stands at US$30 000.


This year's festivities will kick off with Bulawayo Day celebrations at Bulawayo City Hall Car park where the city will be celebrating 130 years. 


Some of the Activities that are set to take place on the first day include Street Parade, World Bicycle Day celebrations & Kontuthu Legend Concert, all set to take place at Bulawayo City Hall Car park.


In a statement, the City of Bulawayo Corporate Communications Officer Nesisa Mpofu said:


"The City of Bulawayo will this year be celebrating 130 years on the 1st June 2024 since the declaration as a town and the celebrations provide an opportunity to invite the people of Bulawayo in celebration of the distinct and proud heritage, rich diversity and artistic potential that the City is endowed with."



"The Bulawayo Arts Festival runs from the 2nd to the 5th of June which is marked through City wide celebrations in the form of music, theatre, dance, food and craft fairs, cultural tourism and sporting  activities to showcase the cultural creative prowess of the City of Bulawayo," said Mpofu


The official opening ceremony for this year's Bulawayo Arts Festival will take place on Sunday 2 June at Stanley Hall in Makokoba and will be graced by performances from the World-famous imbube group Black Umfolosi.


School children are set to partake in this year's Festival through  the schools cultural Showcase slated for Tuesday, 4 June and the Spelling Bee competitions organized by the Bulawayo Junior City Council.


Other activities to look out for at this year's BAF include Gospel Concert, Inxwala Lecture Series & I Wear My Culture Exhibition.


The festival will close with an all female concert dubbed "Imbokodo Concert"
