THE KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival is back for its latest edition, promising a hilarious and entertaining experience for comedy fans in Bulawayo. This year's festival, running under the theme "ENGAGE, EDUCATE, ENTERTAIN", will take place from October 24 to 27, 2024, at the Bulawayo Theatre.
The festival kicks off on Day One with a Theatre Day featuring performances from Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine's College, Sobukhazi High School, and other schools that will be announced later. On Day Two, the festival will screen 13 short films written, acted, directed, and produced by students from various schools, including Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine's College, Sobukhazi High School, St Columba’s High School, Girls College, King George VI Memorial School for people living with disabilities, St John’s High School, Emerald Hill from Harare.
The highlight of the festival is the Stand-Up Comedy Night on Day Three, featuring a talented lineup of comedians from Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa. Ntobeko Malaba from Lupane will bring his unique brand of observational humor, while Tapiwa Harinangoni from Bulawayo will host the night and perform his own set. Other comedians include Keith Nkosi from South Africa, Brian Sibanda from Botswana, and Tanya Alex from Harare.
MEET THE COMEDIANS
Ntobeko Malaba's comedy explores the absurdities of modern life, relationships, technology, and more, with a blend of wordplay and commentary. Tapiwa Harinangoni is a confident young comedian who has performed in Zambia and hosted the Theatre Night at the 2023 festival. Keith Nkosi is a seasoned comedian from Bulawayo who has performed at various festivals and comedy nights, known for his biting humor and vivid storytelling. Tanya Alex is a 2023 NAMA nominee for outstanding comedian, known for her quick-witted humor and calm demeanor.
