Three police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Chiredzi have appeared in court facing serious assault charges.
The officers, identified as Valentine Dhliwayo (40), James Chiduwanda, and Isaac Musungati, were implicated in an incident that occurred in the early hours of January 2, 2023, in Tshovani, Chiredzi.
The complaint, which emerged from the alleged assault, asserts that the officers used excessive force against a civilian.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe revealed that the victim is seeking justice, having reportedly suffered a serious injury to the leg during the altercation.
The accused are set to return to court on August 30, 2024, for further proceedings, as the prosecution emphasizes its commitment to combating crime and corruption within law enforcement agencies.
This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding police conduct and accountability in Zimbabwe. The public continues to advocate for transparency and justice in matters involving law enforcement.
