NACZ Declares 2024 as The Year of Film

THE National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has declared 2024 as "The Year of Film", and the organization is making significant strides towards formulating a comprehensive National Film Strategy.

This development comes as a result of intense national consultations, which culminated in a two-day workshop where industry experts and stakeholders validated the findings and consolidated the strategy document.

The NACZ Executive Director, Napoleon Nyanhi, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response from Film and Television practitioners across the country.

"We are very encouraged by the willingness of practitioners to contribute to this process.The two-day document formulation process was robust and focused, and we are envisioning a strategy document that will energize the sector and inform policy," he said

The National Film Strategy is a critical milestone in Zimbabwe's quest to develop its film industry. The strategy document is expected to provide a roadmap for achieving success in the sector, which is seen as a key component of the country's vision to become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

The formulation of the National Film Strategy is the culmination of two years of hard work, initiated by the former NACZ Director, Mr. Nicholas Moyo, who is now the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture. The strategy aligns with the national vision of leaving no one and no place behind, as emphasized by His Excellency, President E.D Mnangagwa.

The National Film Strategy is expected to be finalized soon, and once complete, it will provide a clear direction for the development of Zimbabwe's film industry. With this strategy in place, the sector is expected to experience significant growth, creating opportunities for filmmakers, artists, and other stakeholders.
