BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe - Today, Honourable Desire Moyo, Member of Parliament for Nkulumane Constituency, marked one year in office with a press briefing, reflecting on the achievements and challenges faced by his constituency.

In his speech, Honourable Moyo highlighted the significance of the past year, stating that it has been a "humbling experience" to serve as the MP for Nkulumane. He emphasized the importance of engagement and participation, citing the success of Indaba 1.0, a community meeting held in March 2024, which brought together residents from all corners of the constituency to discuss challenges and chart a way forward.

The Nkulumane Development Plan, launched on May 25, 2024, was also a major milestone, Honourable Moyo noted. The plan is anchored on three pillars of governance: the Development Committee, the Compassion and Comfort Team, and the Constituency Development Fund Committee.

Honourable Moyo acknowledged the challenges faced by his constituency, including the lack of office space for the MP and delays in government funding. However, he expressed pride in the innovative solutions implemented, such as the creation of a virtual office and the continued support of initiatives through partnerships with funding communities.

The MP also expressed his condemnation of the arrest of Ward 22 Councillor, Mmeli Thobeka Moyo, stating that such actions undermine democracy and leave wards without representation. He reassured residents of Ward 22 that he is committed to providing leadership and support during this challenging time.

Looking ahead, Honourable Moyo outlined several initiatives to be launched in the coming year, including mental health and legal clinics, mobilizing funds for the elderly and gifted pupils, addressing water scarcity, launching anti-drug and substance abuse awareness and rehabilitation programs, and recognizing the contribution of War Veterans.

In conclusion, Honourable Moyo called on the residents of Nkulumane to work together to build a brighter future, saying, "Let us carry forward the spirit of unity and resilience that has brought us this far. We have proven that when we come together, nothing is impossible."

The press briefing was attended by members of the press, residents of Nkulumane, and fellow Zimbabweans, who were inspired by Honourable Moyo's commitment to serving his constituency and promoting the development of Nkulumane.
