The much-anticipated Zimbabwe Jazz Festival 2024 is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, at Alliance Française de Harare. This annual celebration of jazz, themed “Sizzling Rhythms,” promises an unforgettable experience from 2 PM to 10 PM, featuring an impressive lineup of talent.
Presented proudly by the Zimbabwe Jazz Community Trust (ZJCT) and Alliance Française, the festival will showcase a diverse array of artists, including renowned performers such as Paul Lunga, Nnavy, Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, Agga Nyabinde, Rhythmic Pulse, Steve Chikoti, and the Hellenic Big Band. Tickets are available for $20 in advance, and attendees are encouraged to secure their spots early to avoid missing out on this spectacular event.
About the Performers
Steve Chikoti: A seasoned guitarist and singer from Mutare, Steve Chikoti blends classic jazz with Zimbabwean rhythms. He delivers most of his music in Shona and draws inspiration from everyday life through his lyrics, covering themes of love and faith. With six albums to his name and notable performances at major festivals like HIFA and the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival, Steve is sure to captivate the audience.
Rhythmic Pulse: This dynamic ensemble from Harare expertly weaves together jazz, funk, soul, and blues. Influenced by contemporary artists like Kadance Springs and Incognito, they provide a fresh take on jazz while incorporating traditional Zimbabwean Sungura elements. Their impeccable musicianship and infectious energy ensure a thrilling experience for festival-goers.
Agga Nyabinde: Hailing from the Kwekwe mining town, Agga NyaBinde, a rising star in Afro Jazz, draws inspiration from the late legend Bob Nyabinde. His ensemble, 2 Nice Band, delivers energetic performances that keep audiences engaged. Agga was honored with the Zimbabwe Music Award for Best Jazz Artist in 2022, solidifying his position in the industry.
Prudence Katomeni Mbofana: Known for her vibrant performances, Prudence blends traditional sounds with contemporary music, creating a unique artistic identity. Her passion for music deeply resonates with audiences, connecting cultural roots with modern expression.
Nnavy: This Swiss sensation is set to headline the festival, bringing her unique brand of jazz infused with elements of R'n'B and soul. Nnavy has shared the stage with renowned artists like Lionel Richie and Arlo Parks, and her presence at the festival is eagerly anticipated.
Paul Lunga: A legendary figure in Zimbabwean jazz, Paul Lunga is the founder of Bulawayo's Jazz Impacto. With over three decades of experience and a distinctive Afrojazz sound, he has performed at iconic venues globally. Renowned as the “King of Jazz Horns,” Lunga’s music exemplifies the power of jazz to bridge cultural divides.
