Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has publicly apologized for his recent actions that led to his arrest in Beitbridge.
His conduct, described as disorderly, involved an alleged altercation with a police officer, bringing significant attention to the incident.
Chatunga was reportedly involved in an altercation at a roadblock in Bubi, located 80 kilometers north of Beitbridge. Following the incident, which allegedly included the assault of a police officer, he was taken into custody.
In a statement shared on social media, Chatunga expressed remorse and extended his apologies to several high-ranking officials, including the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Mnangagwa, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, and the Commissioner General of Police, Matanga. He acknowledged his actions from last Saturday and stated, “I overreacted.”
The apology has sparked a mixed response from the public. While some commend Chatunga for taking responsibility, others criticize the nature of his behavior and emphasize the need for accountability among prominent figures in society.
