Yesterday, Wednesday 18 September, US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pamela Tremont embarked on a tour of Bulawayo, where she visited various sites and met with local officials to discuss key initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and improving healthcare in the city.
During her tour, Ambassador Tremont was impressed by the city's Mayor, David Coltart, and his efforts to address Bulawayo's water and infrastructure issues.
Ambassador Tremont also visited Mpilo Hospital's HIV Laboratory, one of several labs supported by the US government to provide world-class laboratory standards. The lab, which processes 10,500 viral load tests per month, is part of a larger network of USG-supported labs across the country providing critical services to people living with HIV.
In addition, the Ambassador toured Nketa Clinic, one of 20 health facilities implementing the Impilo Electronic Health Record (E-HR) system. The US is partnering with ZIMTTECH to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care in developing and supporting the Impilo system, which aims to reduce the use of paper registers at service points, thereby reducing the workload for healthcare workers and improving patient outcomes.
The Ambassador's tour also took her to TICOZ, a garment manufacturing company that supplies a large retail clothing shop, where she met young women training and interning as fashion designers.
Overall, Ambassador Tremont's tour of Bulawayo highlighted the important work being done to address key challenges facing the city, and demonstrated the US government's commitment to supporting Zimbabwe's development efforts.
