Mabunu Attracts Interest From Tanzania and Botswana

By Kudakwashe Kutinyo

Chicken Inn FC utility defender Itai "Ijoma" Mabunu has garnered significant attention from top African football clubs, who are reportedly ready to make big offers for his services following his impressive performances.

Mabunu's versatility, physical prowess, speed, aerial dominance, and exceptional ball control have made him a hot prospect, attracting interest from clubs in neighboring Botswana and Tanzania.

In an exclusive interview, Mabunu confirmed the growing interest from foreign teams.

"I have been receiving numerous calls from teams outside the country, inquiring about my availability and expressing their interest in signing me," Mabunu said.

He went on to explain that he has directed interested parties to go through the proper channels due to his existing contract with Chicken Inn FC, avoiding any informal dealings that could jeopardize his focus.

"I advised them to approach Chicken Inn FC management to ensure proper communication, as I still have a running contract. My focus remains on the remaining games of the season."

While Mabunu declined to disclose the names of the clubs, he confirmed, "I won’t reveal the specific teams, but I can say one is from Tanzania and the other from Botswana."

Mabunu has been a key player in the heart of Chicken Inn FC's defense this season, using his aerial skills not only to defend but also to score from set pieces—a quality that sets him apart as a complete modern defender.

Having risen through the ranks from Chicken Inn's development side, Mabunu joined the senior team at a young age but was loaned out to several clubs, including Talen Vision FC, which nearly secured Premier League promotion in 2019.

Following the resumption of football after the COVID-19 pandemic, Mabunu was offered a contract by Chicken Inn FC and has since been a vital part of coach Joey Antipas' squad.
