The Bira ReMbira Inaugural Festival took place on September 27, 2024, at the iconic Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield, Harare, running from 4 PM until the early hours of the following day.
This vibrant festival offered an immersive experience of traditional music, dance, and spiritual connection, celebrating the rich mbira tradition.
The festival attracted a lively crowd of local mbira players, traditional dancers, and cultural enthusiasts. Dignitaries and honored guests joined in the festivities, enjoying traditional beer and dancing to the spirited performances on stage.
Held under the theme "Our Identity, Our Pride; Bringing out the Humanity in our Culture and Heritage," the event successfully united generations. Both the young and old celebrated Zimbabwean culture through captivating performances from school pupils and esteemed artists, including the renowned *vanaGwenyambira*.
The festival drew an estimated 8,500 attendees, highlighting its significance in promoting cultural appreciation.
Key figures in attendance included Honorable Emily Jesaya, Nicholas Moyo, and Napoleon Nyanhi, along with representatives from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, and Chipaz Promotions.
The inaugural Bira ReMbira Festival not only honored traditional arts but also fostered a sense of community, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Zimbabwe.
