Bulawayo– Hartsfield Grounds in Bulawayo burst into a kaleidoscope of colour yesterday as the city hosted its first-ever Colour Festival, an event that attracted people from all walks of life and brought families together for a fun-filled day. Organized by Tumbler Colour, known for hosting similar festivals across the country, the event was a vibrant success, exceeding expectations with a massive turnout.
The festival, which carried the important message of combating youth drug use, was designed to be family-friendly, offering activities that catered to both the young and old.
According to the event's spokesperson, Bulawayo's reception was overwhelming, with families flocking to enjoy the festivities.
The festival offered a range of exciting activities that kept the crowds entertained throughout the day. From the exhilarating colour splashing to quad bike rides, 360-degree photo booths, trampolines, and a kids' center, there was something for everyone. Families also enjoyed a friendly tug-of-war, while food stalls and live entertainment drew in large crowds.
Local artists added to the lively atmosphere, with performances from musicians such as Noluntu J, who expressed her support for the drug prevention cause.
"It’s an honor to be part of something that aims to keep young people away from drugs. We need more events like this, especially to give unemployed youths positive ways to spend their time," Noluntu J said.
The festival’s attendees expressed their joy and excitement, praising the event’s vibrant atmosphere.
One mother shared her thoughts: "My kids had the time of their lives, and the food was absolutely amazing. As you can see, we're covered in colour, and while it's going to take a while to wash off, it was worth every moment just to see the joy on their faces."
Tumbler Colour has previously hosted similar festivals in cities such as Gweru, Harare, Chitungwiza, and Mutare, but this was their first foray into the Matabeleland province. With the success of the Bulawayo edition, the organization hopes to continue building momentum in the region, attracting even larger crowds in the future.
The festival not only provided a day of fun and laughter but also reinforced the importance of community-driven initiatives in promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles among the youth. It was a colourful and inspiring day that will be remembered by many in Bulawayo for years to come.
