Bulawayo is set to host a special tribute concert tomorrow in honor of the late gospel sensation Eric Pheli Moyo, who tragically passed away last December. The event, organized by the gospel group Vocal Ex, will bring together a multitude of gospel artists and fans to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved vocalist.
Eric Moyo, a foundational leader of Vocal Ex, passed away on December 20, 2023, after collapsing on stage during a performance with the renowned Joyous Celebration in South Africa. He later succumbed to a brain hemorrhage in a hospital in Port Elizabeth, leaving behind a significant void in the gospel music scene. Moyo was also a prominent member of The Healing Project, an initiative led by UK-based gospel artist Simangenkosi ‘Mantongande’ Nkala, which is set to be launched during the tribute event.
The concert will take place at the Family of God auditorium in Bulawayo and is expected to be a deeply emotional gathering. Local gospel acts such as Mai Mwamuka, Joyful Praise BICC, AOG Praise Team, Siza Mdlongwa, Snowy, and Vocal Ex will perform, delivering powerful tributes through music and song.
Adding to the anticipation, several South African gospel artists are expected to make surprise appearances, with some high-profile names, including Mantongande and Lindelani Mkhize, confirmed to attend. Their presence underscores the far-reaching influence of Moyo’s work across the region and beyond.
Eric Moyo was a pioneering figure in African gospel, known for being the first winner of Idols East Africa, which launched his illustrious music career. His role in Joyous Celebration, one of South Africa’s most acclaimed gospel groups, solidified his reputation as a force within the gospel world.
The tribute concert promises to be a fitting celebration of Moyo’s life, with fans, fellow musicians, and the community coming together to honor his contribution to gospel music and his lasting legacy. Alongside the emotional tribute, *The Healing Project*’s album launch will add another layer to the evening, providing a glimpse into the work Eric Moyo was so passionately involved in before his passing.
This event is poised to be an extraordinary occasion, filled with both joy and remembrance, as the gospel community unites to pay homage to one of its most cherished voices.
