Zimbabwe’s Youth Propel Global Trade Through Eagles’ Nest

By MKHOKHELI ZIBENGWA

The grandeur of Zimbali Gardens was matched only by the momentous occasion of the Eagles’ Nest 2024 Finale, where ZimTrade CEO Allan T. Majuru delivered an impassioned address, painting a vivid vision for Zimbabwe’s role on the global stage.

The event, a celebration of entrepreneurial spirit and innovation, underscored the transformative potential of harnessing Zimbabwe's rich cultural and natural heritage for economic growth.

Majuru’s speech resonated with an audience that included dignitaries such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, and Minister of Youth Empowerment, Hon. T. Machakaire.

Speaking with conviction, he emphasized that Zimbabwe stands at the cusp of a new dawn—a time to reassert its identity on the global trade scene.

“Innovation,” Majuru declared, “is the vessel through which Zimbabwe’s soul finds expression on the world stage.” He lauded the entrepreneurial efforts of youth-led enterprises like Ona Naturals, whose ingenious use of feso—once considered a pastoral nuisance—has been reimagined as a premium haircare ingredient.

Majuru’s dream of sprawling feso plantations and local brands like Ona Naturals rivaling global giants such as Revlon encapsulated the limitless possibilities rooted in Zimbabwe’s biodiversity.

Highlighting the intersection of heritage and commerce, Majuru turned to Kings Leather, a venture poised to elevate Zimbabwe’s leather craftsmanship to global prominence.

“What the world calls exotic, we call heritage,” he proclaimed, urging the nation to capitalize on global markets willing to pay a premium for authentically Zimbabwean products.

Drawing from the natural landscapes of Domboshava and Manicaland, Majuru spotlighted enterprises such as Golden Harvest, whose honey tells a story as rich as its flavor. For him, every sip of resurrection tea sweetened with this honey isn’t merely a taste of nature—it is a narrative of Zimbabwe’s fertile lands and their potential to yield globally competitive products.

Similarly, he championed Agri-rocket for merging ancient agricultural wisdom with modern technology. Reflecting on his 2019 visit to a Dutch insect breeding facility, Majuru lamented how global innovators have profited from African knowledge.

“If only we can dream big,” he urged, envisioning a future where Zimbabwe leads in sustainable agricultural solutions.

The enduring legacy of Zimbabwe’s stone sculptures—whether adorning international airports or gracing art galleries—was a poignant reminder of the nation’s creative brilliance. Legend Rock Arts & Crafts, Majuru noted, embodies this heritage, crafting jewelry and ornaments that whisper Zimbabwe’s story to the world. “After all,” he affirmed, “Zimbabwe is a house of stone.”

Majuru concluded with a powerful homage to the Great Zimbabwe civilization, a historic trade hub that connected Africa to Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The ancient city’s legacy of construction, culture, and commerce serves as an enduring blueprint for the nation’s aspirations.

“As long as the remnants of that ancient city stand,” Majuru declared, “we will witness the revival of Zimbabwe’s trade, leveraging centuries-old, forward-looking competences through our heritage-based export development program.”

Majuru’s address was not merely a celebration of achievements but a clarion call for Zimbabwe to dream boldly and act decisively. It is a call to reclaim the nation’s rightful place as a beacon of trade and innovation, underpinned by the unparalleled richness of its cultural and natural heritage.

With initiatives like Eagles’ Nest, Zimbabwe’s youth are poised to transform this vision into reality, crafting a legacy of excellence and ingenuity that will echo through generations.
