The City of Bulawayo marked a significant milestone in youth empowerment as 354 graduates were celebrated during the 2024 Vocational Training Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony held at Macdonald Hall, Mzilikazi, yesterday.
Under the theme “Championing Youth Empowerment Through Skills Training,” the event showcased the city’s commitment to equipping young people with professional skills tailored to meet market demands.
The City of Bulawayo currently operates 18 vocational training schools offering diverse programs that prepare youths for professional success. Graduates were awarded certificates in disciplines such as building, art, carpentry, textile design, hotel and catering, motor mechanics, and drainlaying, among others.
The ceremony was graced by Sibongile Khumalo, Acting Deputy Director in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province.
In her keynote address, Khumalo lauded the graduates for their determination and resilience. She urged them to embrace innovation, further their education, and create their own employment opportunities in Zimbabwe’s evolving economy.
“Your achievements today are not only a reflection of your hard work but also a testament to the city’s dedication to developing skilled and innovative youth. The skills you have acquired are a foundation upon which you can build your dreams and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of our nation,” said Khumalo.
She also commended the City of Bulawayo, parents, and guardians for their unwavering support in nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals.
This annual event continues to highlight the city’s role in addressing unemployment and enhancing youth empowerment through strategic skills development. It reinforces Bulawayo’s position as a hub for vocational excellence, equipping its young citizens with the tools needed to thrive in competitive markets both locally and internationally.
The 2024 graduates are now poised to make a meaningful impact in their respective fields, driving innovation and contributing to the city’s growth and prosperity.
