The refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium (NSS) is progressing steadily and has now reached an advanced stage, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, told Parliament yesterday.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Term Fiscal Policy Review Statement and the 2026 National Budget Strategy Paper at the New Parliament Building, Prof. Ncube said significant improvements have already been made at the stadium, with tangible signs of progress now visible on the ground.
He revealed that the installation of bucket seats is almost complete, while reconstruction works on the new turf are well underway. Other critical upgrades, such as the installation of turnstiles at the main entrance and completion of the venue’s operating systems cabling, have also been finalised. Restoration of the water reticulation system is currently in progress, marking another important step toward bringing the stadium back to full functionality.
The refurbishment aims to ensure the stadium meets international standards, particularly those set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which had previously barred Zimbabwe from hosting international matches due to poor infrastructure.
The minister’s update forms part of a broader presentation that reviewed Zimbabwe’s economic performance during the first half of the year and outlined fiscal projections for the months ahead. Infrastructure development, including the rehabilitation of major sporting facilities, remains a key pillar of government policy under the current national development agenda.
