Zimbabwean comedian and actress Felistus Murata, better known as Mai Titi, has officially registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) as she steps into a new chapter of her career, one that will soon see her debut a Nollywood backed film on the big screen.

Mai Titi confirmed the development in a social media post, celebrating the approval as a mark of her professional growth.

“Approved by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe. Taking my career seriously and more professionally,” she wrote.

She went on to highlight the importance of the move, saying:

“Registering with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) is a crucial step for artists, arts groups, and institutions in Zimbabwe. It demonstrates my commitment to professional development and enhances my credibility within the arts sector.”

According to NACZ, registration opens doors for artists by providing promotion and visibility, access to international collaborations, advocacy and representation at different levels, as well as professional training and development opportunities.

The registration comes as Mai Titi prepares for the premiere of her latest movie Lost in Ashes, which hits the big screen on September 27th at Westgate Movies in Harare.

Produced by Omas Studios TV and executive-produced by Mai Titi herself, the film promises a gripping night of drama, suspense and unforgettable moments. It also features seasoned Nollywood stars, a move that underscores Mai Titi’s ambition to bridge Zimbabwe’s film industry with Nigeria’s internationally acclaimed cinema scene.

Tickets for the premiere are already on sale at 119 Samora Machel Avenue, Samora Mall (Shop 5, opposite N1 Hotel), as well as at Westgate Movies.

Mai Titi, who rose to fame through her comedic performances and later branched into acting and music, has continuously reinvented herself in the arts industry. Her decision to collaborate with Nollywood professionals reflects a growing trend of cross-border productions that give Zimbabwean talent a broader platform.

Industry watchers believe the film could mark a turning point for Zimbabwean cinema, as Nollywood’s involvement is expected to attract regional and international attention.

By aligning herself with NACZ while also taking bold steps in film production, Mai Titi is positioning herself as a serious player in the creative arts sector, balancing her comedic roots with a vision for professional and international recognition.

Her fans and the wider entertainment industry will be watching closely when Lost in Ashes premieres, an event that promises not only entertainment but also a milestone for Zimbabwe’s film industry.
