Artist and cultural advocate Prince Ncube popularly known as Dr. Gasolo is preparing for the fourth edition of his Long Walk to Success, a 170-kilometre trek from Matshetsheni in Gwanda to Bulawayo, aimed at giving a stronger voice to local artists and promoting community engagement.

The initiative, set for September 18-20, has become a signature event in Matabeleland, combining endurance with advocacy. Over three days, Dr. Gasolo will journey on foot, stopping in Gwanda and Esigodini before concluding in Bulawayo. Along the way, he will perform, interact with communities, and showcase emerging talent.

According to organizers, the walk is designed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by artists and to encourage businesses and stakeholders to invest in the arts sector.

The project has already secured partnerships with institutions such as the National Aids Council, underscoring the importance of arts in addressing social issues, including drug abuse.

3 Day Breakdown

-Day 1: 50km from Matshetsheni to Gwanda town

-Day 2: 82.5km from Gwanda to Esigodini

-Day 3: Esigodini to Bulawayo (final stretch)

Dr. Gasolo said the walk goes beyond personal achievement, serving as a platform to amplify artists’ voices while strengthening community ties.

“This initiative is about shining a light on the struggles of local artists and highlighting the need for greater support from society and businesses,” he noted.

Over the years, the Long Walk to Success has evolved into more than just a physical journey, becoming a rallying point for cultural recognition and social advocacy in Zimbabwe.
