Bulawayo is preparing to welcome the 2025 edition of the KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival, which is scheduled to take place from October 31 at the Bulawayo Theatre to November 1 at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music, with both events commencing at 4 PM.

The festival promises two days of entertainment, featuring comedy performances, theatre productions, and short film screenings, showcasing some of Zimbabwe’s finest creative talent.

This year’s festival is supported by a diverse range of sponsors, including Playville Planet, Roco Mama’s, ClickSendNow, Mrs Sinkwa, King’s Kraal, 9th Avenue Surgery, VitaminD Pharmacy, Bulawayo Chiefs, and Mist Corporate Services, reflecting strong local backing for the arts.

Tickets are available for $5 in advance and $10 at the door, and can be purchased at VitaminD Pharmacy on Fife Street or 9th Avenue Surgery opposite Tregers Traders.

Festival Director Dumisani “Maforty” Ndlovu emphasised the significance of the event. “The KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival is not only about providing entertainment, but also about promoting Zimbabwean creativity, recognising talent, and creating opportunities for artists to engage with audiences meaningfully,” he said.

In preparation for this year’s festival, the organisers have made a few programme adjustments. The popular Dark Nights Stand-up Comedy Show has been removed from the schedule to ensure a well-balanced and high-quality festival experience. Additionally, Tinotenda Lebogang has been appointed as the new host for Theatre Night, succeeding Mbongeni Ignatius. Ndlovu expressed gratitude to Mbongeni for his contributions and welcomed Tinotenda, noting that his presence would bring renewed energy to the event.

Theatre Night will also feature the return of Mrs Sinkwa as the Title Sponsor, with the evening officially branded KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival Mrs Sinkwa Theatre Night. The programme will include the unveiling of the Mrs Sinkwa Floating Trophy for the Outstanding Theatre Production Award, alongside three awards for the High Schools Theatre Competition, aimed at recognising and encouraging emerging talent in Zimbabwean theatre.

With its blend of comedy, theatre, and film, the KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival 2025 offers audiences a comprehensive cultural experience that highlights the creativity and innovation of Zimbabwean artists. Ndlovu urged the public to secure their tickets early and participate in what promises to be one of Bulawayo’s most significant cultural events of the year.

KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival 2025 represents a continued commitment to celebrating Zimbabwean arts and providing a platform for local talent to thrive.
