US$400 Million Lithium Project Takes Shape in Goromonzi

By MKHOKHELI ZIBENGWA

HARARE — Cabinet has received an update on the US$400 million beneficiation project by Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, marking significant progress in the country’s efforts to enhance value addition in the mining sector.

The lithium sulphate processing plant, currently under construction at the company’s Goromonzi site, comprises three production lines, each designed to handle 500,000 metric tonnes of concentrate per year.

According to the update presented during Tuesday’s Post-Cabinet Briefing, the first production line is expected to commence operations in January 2026, while the second and third lines are scheduled to follow in April of the same year.

Government has hailed the project as a milestone in Zimbabwe’s drive to promote mineral beneficiation and industrialisation under Vision 2030.

Once operational, the plant is anticipated to create hundreds of jobs, boost export earnings, and position Zimbabwe as a key player in the global lithium value chain.
