Ubuntu Culture Night Returns for Second Edition in Bulawayo

By Mkhokheli Zibengwa

The Ubuntu Culture Night returns for its second edition on December 20, 2025, at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music, promising another vibrant showcase of Matabeleland’s cultural diversity through music, food, and art.

Following a successful debut last year, this year’s lineup will feature leading acts including Obert Dube (MC), Nobuntu, Black Diva, Bhila, Maluka, Ihawu leSizwe, Charles Mahlaba, and Gog’Bekezela.

Event Coordinator Desmond Ntini said this year’s programme will blend traditional and contemporary African sounds while promoting unity through the arts.

“The featured artists bring a refreshing African sound that embodies our theme and will accompany the night with love and celebration,” he said. “Ubuntu Culture Night supports Bulawayo as a cultural hub and joins the region in celebrating Ubuntu and culture in one breath.”

Ntini added that the event will include side activities such as exhibitions, a fashion and modelling showcase, and food stalls offering traditional dishes and crafts. He said the fashion segment will adopt a “Europe meets Africa” concept, reflecting the fusion of local creativity with international influences.

Ubuntu Culture Organisation Chairperson Timothy Mlalazi said the initiative continues to build audiences that support homegrown talent.

“Ubuntu Culture Night is helping people associate more with their local artists,” he said. “With continued support, the event will grow and inspire unity and cultural excellence.”

The organisers have called for sponsorship and volunteer support to ensure the festival’s growth, saying Ubuntu Culture Night has become an important space for creative expression and community pride.

Now firmly part of Bulawayo’s arts calendar, the event continues to affirm the city’s place as the heartbeat of Zimbabwe’s cultural identity.
