Churches in Bulawayo joined forces with the City of Bulawayo, the Office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, and other stakeholders in cleaning up a section of 6th Avenue on Friday morning.

The initiative was part of the National Clean-Up Day programme, held on the first Friday of every month from 8AM to 10AM. In Bulawayo, the campaign is coordinated by the City of Bulawayo in partnership with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).

More than 50 sites across the city were cleaned as residents, organisations, and faith-based groups rolled up their sleeves to restore Bulawayo’s sparkle. Churches mobilised their congregants to take the lead in cleaning the busy 6th Avenue stretch, showcasing unity and civic responsibility.

His Worship, Senator David Coltart, the Mayor of Bulawayo, applauded the church community for setting a positive example. He said the involvement of faith-based organisations was inspiring social change and demonstrating that cleanliness begins with collective effort.

“The churches have once again shown leadership and community spirit. Their participation encourages citizens to take pride in their city and maintain a clean environment,” said Mayor Coltart.

Representing the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube, the Director of Coordination in her Office, Mrs. Boetsoarelo Noko, commended the partnership and reiterated government’s commitment to keeping Bulawayo clean.

“Through clean-ups like these, Bulawayo can reclaim its former glory as the smartest city in Zimbabwe,” said Mrs. Noko.

The National Clean-Up Day continues to gain momentum across the country, uniting communities, government, and civil society in the collective pursuit of a cleaner and healthier environment.
