The City of Bulawayo has boosted its waste management capacity with the arrival of eight new refuse collection compactor trucks, provided by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works on a 12-month contract.

The delivery comes as the city has been grappling with waste collection challenges, especially in the Eastern suburbs, where mechanical issues have sidelined several compactors. At present, only four trucks are fully operational, with four undergoing servicing and 11 more under repair.

City officials say the new trucks will help bridge the gap, although a full fleet of 25 compactors is needed to ensure efficient refuse collection across Bulawayo.

The fleet was officially received from Harare by Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu, Finance and Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo, and other city representatives.

The Council emphasized that the addition of the new compactors forms part of broader efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier environment for residents.
