One of Bulawayo’s newest and most vibrant entertainment spots, Hippopula Pub and Grill, is gearing up to host its first-ever HippoFest on December 6, 2025, in Mpopoma near the railway station.

The festival, which will become an annual event, is set to mark the pub and grill’s anniversary in grand style. Speaking in an interview, the Manager of Hippopula Pub and Grill, Khaya Pardon Khanye, said the team decided to create HippoFest as a yearly celebration that brings together their loyal patrons and the community.

“HippoFest is a festival that will be done every year to celebrate the anniversaries of Hippopula Pub and Grill. We have chosen to call it the HippoFest because it’s more than just a party, it’s a celebration of our journey, our people, and the energy that defines Mpopoma,” said Khanye.

Known for hosting crowd-pulling weekly events such as The Game Night, Ladies Night, and Karaoke Evenings with Lethu The Poet, Hippopula has quickly grown into one of Bulawayo’s top entertainment destinations.

Khanye revealed that the inaugural HippoFest will feature some of Zimbabwe’s top musical acts including Poptain and Jah Master, alongside local favourites Bhila, Mzistos, Simunye Simunye, and Butholezwe. The event will be hosted by the dynamic Terresa Lyon, promising an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and fireworks.

“Everyone is invited for the festival. The public should expect a lot of fireworks from the event. We’re bringing together top artists and the best local talent to create something special for Bulawayo,” Khanye added.

With excitement already building up, HippoFest is expected to draw huge crowds from across the city and beyond, cementing Hippopula Pub and Grill’s place as a major player in Bulawayo’s entertainment scene.
