Veteran filmmaker, playwright and novelist Aaron Chiundura Moyo has received a major honour from businessman and philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivayo, who handed him a brand new 2025 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 GD6 along with US$50,000 in cash.
The gesture, announced on Friday, is part of Chivayo’s ongoing efforts to recognise Zimbabwean legends whose contributions have shaped the nation’s creative, cultural and social identity.
Chivayo described Moyo as a towering figure in the arts, applauding his decades-long influence in television, film and literature. He highlighted Moyo’s iconic works—including the popular television series Studio 263, the classic radio drama Tiri Parwendo, and more than 20 acclaimed novels—which he said played a pivotal role in defining Zimbabwean storytelling.
“He is the G.O.A.T of Zimbabwean film and arts,” Chivayo said, noting that Moyo’s impact continues to inspire generations of creatives across the country.
Moyo, regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most decorated cultural figures, has been widely celebrated for portraying authentic Zimbabwean narratives, mentoring emerging artists and cementing his legacy as one of the country’s most influential storytellers.
The donation has been welcomed by artists and the public alike, many praising Chivayo for recognising a national icon while Moyo continues to receive flowers in his lifetime.
