Zimbabwean music powerhouse and internationally acclaimed vocalist Vusa Mkhaya is set to showcase his talent on one of Europe’s most respected stages, the 2025 German Africa Award Ceremony, scheduled for 26 November at the Allianz Forum in Berlin, Germany.
Mkhaya, celebrated for his rich vocal textures and global artistic presence, will perform as part of a duo alongside renowned Austrian pianist Roland Guggenbichler. The pair is expected to deliver a specially curated performance that fuses Zimbabwean vocal excellence with world-class contemporary piano arrangements. Their set is anticipated to captivate guests drawn from diplomatic circles, global institutions and cultural spheres.
The German Africa Award, presented annually by the Deutsche Afrika Stiftung, honours exceptional African leaders and changemakers whose work advances democracy, peace, human rights, cultural development, innovation and sustainability. The awards are widely regarded among Europe’s most distinguished recognitions for African excellence.
This year’s ceremony will also shine a spotlight on Zimbabwean youth activist Namatai Kwekweza, who has been recognised for her outstanding contributions to constitutionalism, human rights advocacy and civic engagement through her organisation, WELEAD Trust. Her honour marks yet another proud moment for Zimbabwe on the international stage.
With Mkhaya’s artistic brilliance and Kwekweza’s groundbreaking activism both being celebrated, Zimbabwe will take centre stage in Berlin, demonstrating the country’s continued contribution to global culture and civic leadership.
