Bulawayo councillors have voted to renew the contract of Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, extending his tenure for another five years.
The decision was made at a special council meeting held this morning, where 17 councillors voted in favour of the renewal, 7 opposed, while 1 councillor abstained from the vote.
The motion to prolong Dube’s service was moved by Ward 3 Councillor Mxolisi Mahlangu and seconded by Ward 15 Councillor Ashton Mhlanga, signalling significant support within council ranks for the continuation of his leadership.
Dube, who has served as Town Clerk since 2016, remains a central figure in the city’s administration, overseeing service delivery, municipal operations, and the implementation of council policies.
The contract renewal comes at a time when Bulawayo continues to grapple with service delivery challenges, financial constraints, and infrastructure pressures, issues that will remain at the core of Dube’s extended term.
Further details on council debates and expectations for the next five years are expected to emerge as city officials outline the implications of the decision.
