The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has dismissed recent social media claims that it plans to impose a tax on domestic solar energy users, describing them as entirely false and malicious.
ZERA emphasized that the Government’s National Energy Compact aims to ensure universal access to energy by 2030. As part of this initiative, the rollout of all energy forms, including solar is being actively supported to ensure that “no one and no place is left behind.”
To promote solar energy, the Government has introduced several incentives, including duty-free importation of solar equipment, specialized training programs for solar installers to enhance industry standards, and net-metering regulations that allow households to supply excess energy to the national grid.
ZERA reassures the public that there is no levy or charge for installing or owning a domestic solar system, and none will be introduced in the future. Citizens are urged to ignore misleading reports that contradict government policy and priorities.

ZERA remains committed to supporting sustainable energy development across Zimbabwe.
