The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged parents and guardians to increase supervision of young children following two tragic drowning incidents reported on 28 November 2025 in Bulawayo and Harare.
The first incident occurred in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, where a three-year-old girl drowned after falling into a water-filled toilet pit approximately 2.5 metres deep while playing at a house.
In New Mabvuku, Harare, a two-year-old boy lost his life on the same day after falling into a well about six metres deep at a home along Gurudzi Street.
Police have expressed deep concern over the incidents and called on communities to secure all water sources, pits, wells, and other hazardous areas to prevent similar tragedies.
According to the ZRP, young children are naturally inquisitive and often unaware of danger, making close supervision essential for their safety. The Police emphasized that simple preventive measures—such as covering open pits and ensuring wells are properly secured—can save lives.
The ZRP continues to urge families and communities to remain vigilant to avoid further loss of life.
