Veteran journalist Ezra Tshisa Sibanda has applauded the Highlanders UK Bosso Chapter for extending financial assistance to legendary youth football coach Ali Baba Dube, who is currently battling health complications and requires regular dialysis.
The UK-based supporters’ chapter donated US$524 to help cover Dube’s medical expenses. The contribution was delivered in Bulawayo by the chapter’s chairman, Thabasile Dube.
Sibanda, who recently interviewed the celebrated coach, said the gesture came at a critical time as Dube now needs three dialysis sessions a week. He commended the UK Bosso Chapter for responding swiftly after watching his interview, describing their action as a display of compassion, solidarity and loyalty to one of the club’s most influential figures.
Ali Baba Dube is widely regarded as one of the greatest youth coaches in Highlanders’ history. He played a central role in nurturing generations of football talent, producing some of the club’s most revered stars. Among the players who came through his hands are the Ndlovu brothers — Madinda, Adam and Peter — as well as Mercedes “Rambo” Sibanda, Willard Khumalo, Peter Nkomo, Methembe Ndlovu, Benjamin Konjera, Thulani Ncube, Bekithemba Ndlovu, Gifted Lunga Senior and Junior, Zenzo Moyo, Johannes Ngodzo, Siza Khoza and many others who went on to shine locally and internationally.
Sibanda expressed deep gratitude to the Highlanders UK Chapter for their timely intervention, describing it as a noble act that honours Dube’s immense contribution to Zimbabwean football development.
