Highlanders Football Club has issued a statement acknowledging a proposal by benefactor Sir Wicknell Chivayo, who recently expressed willingness to “facilitate and take care of” former Warriors striker Benjani Mwaruwari if he were to be appointed as the club’s head coach.
In the press release dated 01 December 2025, Bosso said the gesture was appreciated and that Sir Wicknell had acted in the best interests of the club. However, Highlanders reminded its stakeholders that the institution has established procedures governing the hiring of technical and playing staff.
“While the news is greatly appreciated and the club believes he acted with the best interests of the club at heart, the club would like to remind its stakeholders that there are processes and procedures that are in place that speak to the hiring of Technical and playing staff,” reads the statement.
Highlanders also confirmed that it is already finalising with a potential candidate who is set to take over from Mr. De Jongh ahead of the upcoming season. Once concluded, the development will be communicated to the club’s supporters.
“We thank Sir Chivayo for his consideration and continued support to the club. We look forward to greater support as the club turns 100 years in the year 2026,” the club added
