A new state-of-the-art Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom block valued at more than US$70,000 was commissioned on Tuesday at Queen Elizabeth II Primary School in Nkulumane, bringing a major boost to early learning facilities in the community.
The project was successfully completed through a partnership between the City of Bulawayo and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to helping construct the modern ECD block, the Church also equipped the school’s borehole with solar equipment to ensure a reliable water supply.
Both the classroom block and the solar-powered borehole upgrade were handed over during a colourful ceremony attended by school officials, community leaders and invited guests.
His Worship, Senator David Coltart, the Mayor, was represented by the Chairperson of the Health, Housing and Education Committee, Councillor Ntombizodwa Khumalo, who is also the Ward 23 Councillor. She praised the collaboration, noting that strategic partnerships continue to play an important role in improving education infrastructure across the city.
The new ECD block is expected to ease classroom shortages and provide a more conducive learning environment for early learners at Queen Elizabeth II Primary School.
