The 57th International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) Annual Conference is underway in Turin, Italy, where the organisation has announced its leadership for the 2026–28 term.
Amanda de la Garza Mata, Artistic Deputy Director at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) in Madrid, Spain, has been elected President of CIMAM. She will lead the organisation alongside a new Board that will guide global initiatives in museum ethics, sustainability, institutional governance, professional development, and advocacy.
Zimbabwe has received a significant honour at this year’s conference, with Mr. Raphael Chikukwa, Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, being elected to the CIMAM Board for the 2026–28 term. The Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture issued a congratulatory message celebrating his appointment.
The announcement comes as Zimbabwe prepares to host the 2026 CIMAM Annual Conference, a milestone that underscores the nation’s growing influence in the global modern art community and its commitment to strengthening cultural institutions.
