The Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe, says the government is now aiming to complete renovations at the National Sports Stadium (NSS) before the start of next year’s sporting season.
Speaking on the revised timelines, Minister Sanyatwe said the government remains committed to restoring the facility to international standards to ensure it can once again host major regional and international competitions. The NSS, which has been undergoing phased upgrades, has faced delays due to structural assessments and the procurement of specialized materials required for compliance with CAF and FIFA regulations.
The Minister emphasised that the accelerated work plan is expected to fast-track remaining tasks, including pitch improvements, seating upgrades, installation of modern media facilities, and enhancement of safety and security systems.
He added that completing the renovations ahead of the new sporting calendar is a top priority, as the stadium plays a crucial role in national football, athletics, and large-scale public events.
