The Matopo Pot Project was officially launched yesterday in Bulawayo under the theme 'From Huts to Pots' hosted by the Germany Embassy in partnership with Ekhaya Gaia.
The event was graced by performance from Stango & Nongoma, Drums of Peace, Asante-Mo, and Thandoe the poet.
Women from several clusters of Matopo came to showcase their unique pots branded with modern traditional essence of birthing the African Culture back into the City.
Ms Catherine Simon the Head of Cultural Affairs from the Germany Embassy in Harare highlighted that,
"As an individual l fell in love with huts paintings pictures, thus l had a word with the German Foreign government Preservation of Cultural Heritage Affairs for support on how we can promote the women in Zimbabwe in their creativity and traditional art",said Ms Simon.
Women in Creative Arts from Bulawayo are harnessing their talents and creativity in embracing the African culture hence it was said their modern pots paintings can be used in storytelling and among other things.
However, they were given a platform to exhibit their pots, some were bought while some are yet to be showcased at Matopo and in Harare Bay next week.
The Workshop Coordinator of 'My Beautiful Home' Ward 17 from Matopo's Mrs. Skhulile Hlongwane said that the inspiration behind the initiative is to restock the traditional artwork which was going instinct.
"We observed that the restoration of our culture is still going on so we thought of encouraging women to merge their creativity with modern pots paintings bringing about the theme of the project from Huts to Pots. We are hoping this initiative will be an incogeneratingive project to most of the women of Matopo's" she said.
