CottonFest, one of South Africa’s most vibrant youth culture festivals, has officially announced its conclusion after months of internal deliberations. The announcement was made through a public statement released by festival owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo, marking the end of a movement deeply rooted in creativity, community, and the legacy of late rapper Riky Rick.

Since its inception in 2019, CottonFest has grown into a cultural powerhouse, providing a platform for young artists to shine while celebrating music, fashion, and urban culture. The festival was widely regarded as an extension of Riky Rick’s life mission to uplift youth talent and build a united creative community.

However, the CottonFest team confirmed that the festival can no longer continue due to disputes among current shareholders. The statement revealed that differences in vision and purpose have made it “increasingly challenging to continue the festival in a manner that upholds the standards and vision set out by its sole founder, Riky Rick.”

Bianca Naidoo expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the CottonFest family, acknowledging the unwavering support received from fans, partners, and artists over the years.

“While we remain extremely proud of what the festival has achieved and are deeply grateful for the support it has received, the differences among the two parties made it clear that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward,” Naidoo said.

Despite the difficult decision, the CottonFest team celebrated the movement built over the years and thanked the public for walking the journey with them. The statement ended with a heartfelt message honouring Riky Rick’s legacy: “We never die. We multiply.”

The shutdown marks the end of a cultural era for South African youth entertainment, leaving fans across the region reflecting on the festival’s profound impact.
