A South African preacher undertaking an unusual spiritual trek across the continent has reached Masvingo, drawing attention and curiosity from residents as he continues his long walk toward Israel while pulling a wooden cross.

The evangelist, Reini Coetzee, is on a mission he says was inspired by prayer and a desire to spread a message of faith and encouragement. His journey, which started in Cape Town earlier this year, will see him travel thousands of kilometres through multiple African nations before attempting to reach the Middle East.

Coetzee’s arrival in Masvingo marked another milestone in an expedition that has been physically demanding but spiritually rewarding, according to the preacher. He has been moving on foot, often under scorching heat, and relies on support from communities along the way.

Speaking briefly during his stop in the city, Coetzee said the mission is meant to remind people of God’s presence and the importance of unity and peace at a time when many are facing hardship.

Local residents paused to greet him, offer refreshments, and take photos of the symbolic cross he pulls behind him — a sight not commonly seen on Zimbabwean roads.

Coetzee will continue travelling north through Zimbabwe as he pushes toward East Africa, where he expects to face both logistical and border challenges. Despite this, he says he is determined to complete the pilgrimage, trusting that “every step has a purpose.”
