The City of Bulawayo on Monday seized the opportunity to outline its waste management efforts to His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, during an exhibition held on the sidelines of the commissioning of the second batch of refuse collection equipment by Geo Pomona Waste Management.
The commissioning ceremony, held in Harare, brought together local authorities and key stakeholders in the waste management sector, providing a platform for municipalities to share experiences and innovations aimed at improving urban cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Representing the City of Bulawayo, Cleansing Superintendent Mr Nkanyiso Ndlovu briefed the President on the City’s approach to waste management, emphasising the importance of partnerships in maintaining cleanliness.
Mr Ndlovu explained that Bulawayo works closely with various societal groups, including community organisations and other stakeholders, to promote responsible waste disposal and collective ownership of a clean city.
He noted that collaboration remains central to the City’s strategy, particularly in the face of growing urban populations and increasing waste generation.
At the conclusion of the presentation, President Mnangagwa commended the City of Bulawayo for its forward-thinking and innovative approaches to addressing waste management challenges, acknowledging the importance of partnerships and local initiatives in building sustainable cities.
