The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has hosted a delegation from Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) in Harare as the two institutions explore closer cooperation in wildlife conservation and protected area management.

The exchange visit focused on sharing practical experiences in conservation governance, concession management models and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening wildlife protection and sustainable use across the region. Officials from both sides discussed how cross-border collaboration can improve conservation outcomes while supporting national tourism and economic goals.

Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Honourable Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, met the visiting delegation and said Zimbabwe stands to benefit from learning from TANAPA’s conservation management systems. She noted that regional cooperation remains key to addressing common challenges such as poaching, habitat degradation and sustainable financing for protected areas.

Dr Ndlovu expressed optimism that the engagements would open doors for future partnerships that enhance Zimbabwe’s wildlife sector and position the country as a competitive conservation and tourism destination.

The visit also coincided with a meeting between the Minister and ZimParks Board Members, where she reviewed the authority’s performance for 2025. Dr Ndlovu commended the board for progress recorded so far but urged them to ensure that ZimParks’ programmes remain aligned with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

She further stressed the need to prioritise staff motivation and institutional efficiency, saying a motivated workforce is critical for improved performance and stronger conservation outcomes in 2026.

The engagement with TANAPA comes as ZimParks continues to strengthen regional and international partnerships to improve wildlife management and conservation standards in Zimbabwe.
