Widows in Nkulumane have been urged to organize themselves and begin crafting income-generating project proposals following an announcement made during a Valentine’s Day Party held for Nkulumane widows on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Ester Zitha, widow of the late Nkulumane Constituency Member of Parliament, Desire Moyo, revealed that she had been approached by someone willing to support initiatives aimed at uplifting widows in the area.

Zitha explained that while full details are yet to be shared, the opportunity could open doors for women to start sustainable projects that improve their livelihoods.

“I was approached by someone who expressed interest in supporting widows through income-generating projects.l am encouraging you to prepare yourselves so that when the time comes, we are ready.”

She instructed the women to divide themselves into groups of two and come up with two viable income-generating projects per group. The proposals should be written down and prepared in advance.

“Let's divide ourselves into two groups, discuss our ideas, and write our proposals. Once everything is in place, I will come back to you with further details,” Zitha said.

Although the initiative is primarily aimed at benefiting widows from Nkulumane, she emphasized that it is open to all women in the community, including those whose husbands are still alive. She noted that inclusivity would allow women to learn from one another and strengthen community ties, while maintaining the core focus on supporting widows.

The event, which brought together dozens of women, was marked by a spirit of unity and empowerment. What began as a Valentine’s Day celebration turned into a platform for encouraging economic independence and collective action.

Guest of Honour, Ward 23 Councillor Ntombizodwa Khumalo, commended Zitha for initiating the program and thinking about the welfare of widows in Nkulumane.

“I would like to thank Mrs Moyo for coming up with this great initiative for the widows of Nkulumane.I hope this project grows, becomes registered, and one day is recognized even beyond our community," said Khumalo

She encouraged the women to take the proposal-writing process seriously and to work together in unity to ensure the success of the initiative.

For many widows in attendance, the announcement brought renewed hope. While details are still forthcoming, the message was clear: preparation, cooperation, and determination will be key as Nkulumane women position themselves for new economic opportunities.
