Donald Trump has announced that the United States has launched what he described as a “massive and ongoing operation” against the Iranian regime, dramatically escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a televised video address, President Trump said the mission’s primary objective is to dismantle Iran’s missile industry and neutralise its naval capabilities. The declaration follows weeks of stalled nuclear negotiations in Geneva and a significant U.S. military buildup in the region.
“We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground,” Trump said. He added that the operation is intended to ensure that Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon.”
The President described Iran’s leadership as a “wicked, radical dictatorship” and issued a direct warning to the **Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps** (IRGC), urging them to “lay down your arms… or you will face certain death.” While acknowledging the possibility of American casualties, Trump insisted that the decision was necessary to safeguard U.S. national security interests.
In a striking appeal to Iranian citizens, Trump encouraged political change, stating: “Your hour of freedom is at hand.” He suggested that the broader objective of the campaign includes the removal of the current leadership, telling the Iranian public, “When we are finished, take over your government; it will be yours to take.”
The announcement comes amid heightened alert in Israel. Defence Minister lsrael Katz declared a 48-hour state of emergency, warning of imminent retaliation from Iranian forces. Reports indicate that air raid sirens have already sounded in Tel Aviv and parts of central Israel as authorities brace for potential counterstrikes.
